Quantum Pharmaceutical is formed and begins trading with a small team of pharmacists and technicians at Tyne Metropolitan College near Newcastle-upon-Tyne to service the specials market.

After tremendous growth in the first three years, we outgrow our labs and relocate to Burnopfield in the County Durham countryside, where the business continues to expand.

We launch our special obtains service to offer pharmacies a 'one stop shop' where they can order all their hard-to-source products and unlicensed medicines in one phone call.

This year is one in a million, as the millionth order is despatched from our in-house manufacturing facility. Our team is growing quickly as demand for our 'one stop shop' service builds, and we have a high performing line-up of technical, logistics, customer service, commercial and support staff in place to get us ready for the expansion ahead.

Quantum Pharmaceutical Aseptic Suite

Our state-of-the art sterile manufacturing facility opens at headquarters and we expand our range of unlicensed medicines to include aseptic products for intravenous use. This multi-million pound investment creates additional jobs for highly skilled technical specialists. The newly-launched service attracts great interest from hospitals keen to outsourcing aseptic compounding to reap time and efficiency benefits.

Our parent company, Quantum Pharma floats on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange; this opens up new avenues of investment to help keep us at the forefront of the market for niche pharmaceutical products and specialist services to support primary and secondary care.

Employing 250 people in the North East in skilled and technical roles, we celebrate a remarkable year for two reasons: we've released our two millionth order and given a sum total of £100,000 in donations to good causes through our Corporate Social Responsibility plan. We are proud to count ourselves as one a growing cluster of forward-thinking pharma companies helping Newcastle and the North East make its mark as a Science City.
